October 2012

I can't believe that October has come and gone. It went by so quickly, but it was full of lots of fun! 

Outer Banks, NC

At the beginning of the month Quincy had fall break. We went to the Outer Banks with 12 other LDS law families.  The weather was kind of cold and rainy but we still had a great time.

 Jack was tired and was kind of scared of the waves at this point. 

 Even though that water was fairly warm Jack was afraid that it was so loud and moved. He eventually got used to it and enjoyed splashing a bit. 

This was the house we stayed in with half of the families.

While we were at the Outer Banks Jack learned to clap. He did it constantly for about a week and now won't do it anymore. It was fun while it lasted though. 

Fall Colors

We are really going to miss the fall colors here in Charlottesville. They are breathtaking and we can't seem to get enough of them. Here are a few pictures of the trees around the law school.

 Ever since Jack was born he has loved to look at trees. He really loves to feel the leaves in his hands and examine them (then tries to eat them).

Daddy is our favorite guy!

Quincy spent a large amount of time working on a paper he has to write to graduate from law school. It ended up being 98 pages! Needless to say we didn't see him much for a few weeks. Quincy always made sure he spend time with Jack and I though. Jack can't get enough of his Daddy. He always wants to be right next to him and do exactly what he is doing. This month Jack also said his first word. Daddy! He had never even made the Da sound but one morning he sat up, looked at Quincy and said "Da-Dee."

Temple Trip

We went up to D.C. to go to the temple and enjoyed the fall colors the whole drive. We went with our friends the Tibbitts and swapped watching children so we could go in with our spouses. We had such a wonderful time. We'll definitely miss these trips with our friends.

Halloween

Jack had lots of fun dressing up for Halloween. I think he was super cute in his costume but I might be a bit biased. 

 Being attacked by the tiger is a daily occurrence in this home. 

 He already understands that candy is desirable. He must get that from his mommy . . . or daddy.

 We went trick-or-treating on the Lawn at UVA. A lots of the community comes out and the students that live on the lawn hand out candy. Lots of people but lots of fun. Behind Quincy and Jack is the Rotunda but sadly is being renovated.

Well, that is all for our busy month of October. We also survived the hurricane just fine. We were blessed that the storm wasn't too bad  by the time it hit us. Two days off of school for Quincy and rain which I love: Sandy was good to us. 

November is shaping up to be just a busy but there might not be as many photos next month.

September

This month flew by. Quincy is now back to school for the last time. He's doing a great job of still working hard but also has made a bit more time to have fun. Here are a few pictures from recently.

 We went to our first UVA football game on Sept 1st. It was in the high 90s with around 90% humidity. It was very warm to say the least but still lots of fun! UVA won and the kids survived the whole game (which was an even bigger victory!) 

 We went with our friends the Tibbitts and their little boys Luke and Eli. Eli found it easiest to stay cool without a shirt on. :) We kept everyone else cool with a spray bottle and lots of water.

Jack was such a trooper. He was happy almost the whole time and even took a nap during the game.  

 He loves to be outside and around people so a football game was just the place for him.

See! He could hardly keep his eyes off the game.  

 Just this weekend Jack got his 2 top teeth in...finally! We hope that helps the drooling, eating, and sleeping problems he's had recently. Overall he's a very happy boy though. 

His smile makes my day perfect! I love being a mom so much and wouldn't trade it for anything. It's everything I hoped it would be. I'm so blessed to have such a sweet angel that I get to be with all day. As well as a wonderful husband who is an awesome dad! 

Jack recently had a cold for three weeks which set back his crawling because he felt so yucky but he's back to army crawling around. He finds anything that I've left on the floor and I'm sure will be getting into everything soon. 

We finally have stuff to blog about! :)

Our most exciting update is that we will be having a baby in February (hopefully January but we’ll see). We are having a boy, Jack Gerald, who will be named after his father, and both grandpas. We were thrilled to find out that we were pregnant in June while we were in Portland over the summer. We've wanted to have a baby for a long time, so we are very excited. Much of the summer was a blur for me due to morning sickness but I am happy to endure any type of discomfort to finally have this sweet boy in my arms.

Since we’ve been back in Charlottesville, we’ve been to three doctor appointments. They have all gone very well. Jack seems to be growing healthy and strong.

We had a little scare last week when the doctor discovered I was measuring four weeks bigger than is normal. I felt like I was huge and it was kind of nice to know it wasn’t in my head. The doctor was concerned that there might be a fibroid or some other issue that should be addressed. We went in for an ultrasound Tuesday morning to check everything out. It turns out that Jack is just a big baby! He’s about a pound bigger than typical and he has some really long legs. Maybe he’ll be an athletic Stott after all even though his parents aren't the most athletic of the Stott clan.

This is the only picture we could get of his face. Most of the time he kept one hand over his face and the other over his heart, making the technician's job hard. We think we just have a shy, patriotic baby.

In other news:

We will be spending next summer in Cheyenne, WY. We are very excited to be there! When my parents moved me to Montana my senior year of high school I swore I would never marry anyone from Montana or Wyoming or ever live there. Never say never…

It’s a great opportunity to be close to our immediate and extended families—at least closer than we are in Charlottesville! None of Quincy’s other prospects felt right, so we were glad when this opportunity came along and we feel like this is where the Lord wants us to be. Quincy will be working for Holland & Hart LLP, a preeminent mountain west law firm of over 400 attorneys with offices throughout the region.

Quincy feels especially blessed to get a summer associate position at Holland & Hart for a number of reasons. The application process is incredibly competitive for any of the firm’s offices. The firm is probably the top regional law firm in the area. It gets the best work and has some great clients. Ever since he was in high school, he has known about the firm and thought that it might be great to work there some day. When his uncle Lars joined the firm, he was even more interested. Basically, Holland & Hart has been Quincy’s dream firm for a long time and he’s thrilled to be a summer associate there.

This summer associate position is basically a 10-week interview. If Quincy do a good job and the firm has room for him, it will probably give him an offer to join the firm full-time as an associate after he graduate from law school. This isn’t for sure and Quincy needs to make sure he does his best, but he likes working hard and he’s very interested in the work. We think it will be a great experience and we are really looking forward to it.
